Remembrance Day – 5th October
My Remembrance Day for my dear husband John is 5th October, the date he died. We were married for fifty very happy years and he was a wonderful husband and father to Tony and Ann. We met during the celebrations in London on VE night. He had just been demobbed and I will never forget how we danced all night. His time serving his country was a very important part of his life and he made some of his best friends during his years in the army. He met up with Smudge, Chalky and Wilco frequently when they put the world to rights over a beer.
John was a very keen gardener and looked forward to his retirement as it meant he could devote more time to his plants. Thanks to his dedication in the vegetable garden we had fresh vegetables all year round.
In his later years, he was particularly proud of the achievements of our five grandchildren, Jason, Tanya, Rob, Simon and Emma. I am so pleased he had the chance to meet Zoe, his first great-grandchild. The whole family miss John but we are glad to have this opportunity to remember him and support one of his favourite charities.
"A great guy, and a good friend."
"John and I were posted in Northern Ireland at the same time. We were both fresh out of training, and not sure what to make of it all."
"I will miss John very much. He had a great sense of humour and knew how to live life to the full."
